Great news! Mrs. Nashberry would like to thank the students in the former Class of 2021 and current students in the Class of 2025. Their letter writing campaign last year in both Civics and Mrs. Taylor's social studies classes have helped result in our area receiving one of the Connect Illinois grants that will help bring broadband internet to people without it in our area. According to WK&T, about 682 locations in the grant award area are also part of the Cobden School District territory. WK&T says the students should be proud that their letters helped make a difference in their community! https://www.wsiltv.com/news/state-investing-47-million-to-expand-broadband-in-illinois/article_d7bed034-7ee8-11ec-8f2d-ff045537726a.html

Students in Mrs. Nashberry's Civics classes heard from guest speaker Paul Echols. Echols was very instrumental in solving the cold case of 9 murders committed in the last 1970s/80 by a criminal throughout southern Illinois and Missouri. He also worked with the Innocence Project to clear a person's name who was wrongly convicted for a crime in southern Illinois that they didn't commit. Students appreciated him answering all of their questions about criminal justice and the book that he wrote.
