COLLEGE/CAREER EXPLORATION

College and Career Readiness

All students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities that will further their college and career readiness.  Juniors and seniors have two college visit/career shadowing days they can use throughout the year that will not count against their attendance.  Please see Mrs. Reiman for a pre-approved absence form to take a college or career day.  The students must submit proof of their visit to the counseling office the day after their visit.

Students can request an individual meeting with Mrs. Reiman to discuss their college and career goals.

Free Application for Federal Student Aide

Seniors are required to either complete the FAFSA or opt-out form to be eligible for graduation.  You can complete the FAFSA by creating an account.  Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible as grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If a student wishes to opt out, they can request a form from Mrs. Reiman.  Keep in mind that just because you complete the opt-out form, you can still complete the FAFSA at any time.

Scholarships

Many local organizations release their scholarship applications in the spring semester of every academic year.  Seniors are encouraged to check Mrs. Reiman’s Google Classroom for copies of available scholarships and deadline information.

Internships and employment opportunities

Students can check Mrs. Reiman’s Google Classroom for information on employment and internship opportunities.

The school provides a guidance and counseling program for students.  The school’s counselors are available to those students who require additional assistance.

The guidance program is available to assist students in identifying career options consistent with their abilities, interests, and personal values.  Students are encouraged to seek the help of counselors to develop class schedules that meet the student’s career objectives.  High school juniors and seniors can receive college and career-oriented information.  Representatives from colleges and universities, occupational training institutions, and career-oriented recruiters, including the military, may be given access to the school campus to provide students and parents/guardians with information.

Promotion and Graduation Requirements

Junior High Promotion

Each graduation candidate must take a standardized assessment during their junior year (Examples: SAT). Every class must complete the required courses and additional courses for 24 credits. Below is the outline for 2015 graduates and beyond.
